The AperFix® System

Getting athletes and weekend warriors back to their game.

It seems that we all know someone who has torn their ACL. Injury stories range from the professional football player getting chopped by a safety as he lands in the end zone, the club soccer player making a quick cut as she takes off towards the goal, to the 16-year-old basketball player planting his foot as he goes for the ultimate layup in the last two seconds of the game. With over 400,000 of these injury stories a year, the need for a reliable, reproducible and effective soft tissue repair solution is clear.

Cayenne Medical has developed a breakthrough technique for ACL reconstruction with its first platform technology, the AperFix System. These revolutionary implants are made of polyetheretherketone (PEEK™), a material with well-documented strength, biocompatibility and ideal modulus, enabling surgeons to confidently perform anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using the hamstring and other soft tissue grafts. While many companies have developed various fixation devices for these grafts, they have not adequately addressed the fixation strength and postoperative laxity that are commonly associated with this procedure.

    The AperFix Femoral Fixation

A truly unique implant, the AperFix Femoral device is proven to restore native knee kinematics through an unrivaled, simple technique. The implant is inserted transtibial or through the AM Portal, with no need to drill through the femoral cortex. Once pushed into position the implant is deployed, taking less than a minute to securely fix the graft.

Active tendon compression and multidirectional, dual fixation at the aperture has separated this implant from all the rest, delivering:

    • Unsurpassed graft stiffness, replicating the native ACL*
    • 32% less anterior translation than cortical buttons*
    • Complete separation of the AM & PL Bundles
    • High pull-out strength - 1253N*
    • Simple solutions for revision
    • Fast, reproducible technique

    The AperFix Tibial Fixation

A significant advancement in technology, the AperFix Tibial device facilitates unparalleled anatomic reconstruction, following a simple, reproducible technique.  The implant consists of a screw and two-part sheath that allows for integrated graft tensioning during deployment and delivers strong, rigid fixation.

Controlled positioning of the AM & PL bundles and circumferential graph compression has made the implant a superior choice for surgeons, delivering:

    • Preservation of graft integrity
    • Ideal modulus to minimize stress shielding
    • Optimal tendon to bone healing environment
    • High pullout strength - 1156N*
    • Superior imaging clarity
    • Bio-inert PEEK material, eliminating inflammatory responses

The AperFix Femoral Implant with Inserter is intended for use in tenodesis procedures with soft tissue grafts, utilizing either arthroscopic or open techniques, during Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL), Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL), and Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL) reconstruction.
